Roberto Dani
His work focuses on the porous boundaries between real-time composition and written music. Since the beginning of his career, he has pursued a highly personal and exploratory approach to the drum set, developing an extended sonic language rooted in research and improvisation. For over 25 years, his artistic practice has actively engaged with other art forms, including dance, multimedia, video art, contemporary theatre, and opera.
Alongside numerous solo performances and collaborations with dance and ballet companies, Dani has, since 2007, shared his sonic research through Forme Sonore, an interdisciplinary laboratory he founded and directs, dedicated to instrumentalists and performers alike. In recent years, he has been especially active with the Stefano Battaglia Trio, with whom he has recorded four albums for ECM Records. His current projects also include Mirrors with accordionist and singer Evelina Petrova, RAM with M. Tadini (real-time sampling), the Roberto Bonati Trio, Stagon with visual artist Gianandrea Gazzola, and the sound-installation project Nomos II, based on water-drop acoustics.
